With Jeffrey planning on voting for Rainer, the agents think he has something to do with Sara’s disappearance. Yet Mei can’t get a background check on Rainer because it will send up red flags during his confirmation process. Kelton suggests they get someone outside the FBI to do it.
Judy is annoyed when another news outlet interviews a Massachusetts fisherman who claims that he found the body of “Nicky” in the water twelve years ago. This refutes Judy’s story. Cameras show the body being exhumed from the grave where Morell had been digging. The fisherman was being paid by Morell to lie. Morell shoots him and drives the man’s boat out to sea.
Kelton interrogates Quinn, who will not divulge anything about the feed or the cryptic writing on her hand. She doesn’t believe that Kelton can protect her. Kelton suggests to his tech that they broadcast a signal from Quinn’s laptop to track the source.
Judy gets chewed out by her boss Nagel for not researching that “Nicky” had been dead. Nagel tells her that Adam was the one who erased Peter’s video. Judy confronts Adam, who says he didn’t do it.
Judy meets Kelton at a bar. She agrees to give him her background info on Rainer in return for the FBI analyzing the body of “Nicky” exhumed from the Massachusetts graveyard.
Judy retracts her Nicky story and announces that the FBI has arrested Quinn. Watching this, Max reacts. He remembers when he was involved in a car accident two years ago. Max did not have a license and was drunk with his father’s car. Despite Sara’s plea to reprimand the boy, Jeffrey has the police release Max. Max shoots Sara an oily smile of triumph. This spoiled and arrogant Max is different from the Max of current day.
Marcy goes into Jessica’s room and finds a birth certificate for Rebecca Jerome in the drawer. The mother is listed as Sara. Jessica explains that she intended to tell Jeffrey but didn’t have the heart.
Mei and Kelton go over Judy’s documents and discover that Rainer called Marcy’s phone twenty times in one month. Were they having an affair? The calls ended eight months ago, but there was one final call on the day Rainer was nominated to the Supreme Court.
Kelton questions Marcy, who’s surprised that the topic is Rainer. She confesses that Sara found out about the affair but told Jeffrey that Rainer had been sleeping with an unnamed, underage girl. Kelton keeps Marcy’s secret from Jeffrey.
Peter begs Judy to interview him again, but she doesn’t want to be made a fool. She asks him to speak to Sara’s parents, the Jeromes, because they won’t talk to the press.
Jessica advises Jeffrey to vote for Rainer to protect his career. Max overhears this, and flashes back to the night that Jeffrey and Sara argued about his drunk driving escapade. Sara wants Max to go to rehab.
Kelton brings in Rachel Lawson, a professor specializing in symbology, to examine the Masonic images. Rachel dismisses the idea that Freemasons kidnapped Sara. She doesn’t recognize the upside down “G.” Later, Rachel looks up the G in a book. It is familiar to her and she was lying about not knowing it.
The techie tracks the feed by sending signals from Quinn’s laptop. Kelton goes with the tac team to the location, which is a vacant field. Kelton climbs up a transmission tower and grabs a black box affixed to it. It’s a cell phone transceiver that was using the federal emergency signal to transmit. It stopped when Quinn signaled the kidnappers to pull the plug.
Max tells his father note to vote for Rainer because he’s a “creep.”
FLASHBACK TO TWO YEARS AGO – Max is released from the Encompass rehabilitation facility. He thanks Sara for admitting him. Before he leaves, Max says goodbye to his drug counselor -- Quinn. She has the rose window tattoo on her wrist.
Mei summons Judy to view the 3D reconstruction of the body exhumed from the grave. It doesn’t match Sara, which confirms for Judy that the fisherman was a fraud. Judy asks Nagel to let her report on the FBI’s rendering of the exhumed body, but he refuses.
Peter goes to see the Jeromes at their hotel, but they will not talk about what happened when Sara disappeared. Peter sees their twelve year-old daughter Becca and asks if it is Sara’s daughter. The Jeromes shut the door on him. Peter waits in the hotel and swipes a straw that Becca used to drink a soda. He puts the straw in a plastic bag.
Kelton finds what looks like a glitch on the video feed tape, but it’s a light from an outside source causing a shadow. Immediately after the light, Sara reacts to something above. They start checking weather patterns for lightning and match it to the cell phone reach of the black box. The feed originated from Stone Mountain.
Kelton and Mei chopper there with a tac team and find the bunker. No one is inside and it is covered with blood.
