During the night, Cassie notices a guy who seems to start and then put out a fire in back yard of her neighbour’s house; the next morning, thanks to Jane, Cassie realizes that the guy is Jake, Nick’s elder brother. Her grandmother states that the Circle is still strong, even though one of its member has died, since the bound doesn’t involve just the single individuals, but even their families; so now Jake is part of it too.
It’s Cassie’s duty to take the lead and protect the Circle, being the most powerful witch descending from the first ones of her kind.

Diana shows her father an old picture of her and Nick, and the two of them resurrect the memories of Charles being used to take the two little children on his boat, since Nick loved those trips very much; at the same time, the kid would be so scared that he would grasp the man’s arm. Diana seeks comfort in her father’s arms.

Adam is not happy at all of Jake’s return: in fact, because of him his father risked losing the Boathouse several years before, and Adam still hasn’t forgiven him.

Jane asks Dawn to keep an open eye on the guys: now that the Circle is bound, they’re going to need their powers to protect themselves. Dawn manages to look surprised, but agrees to help the woman.
At the abandoned house, the teens discuss the opportunity to let Jake know about the Circle, but while they’re talking to each other they discover a fire outside the house; luckily, they’re able to extinguish it with their powers. On the ground there is the burnt shape of a crescent moon. Jane tells Cassie that it’s a symbol meant for a “conquer”, and that it used to be created on witches’ lands for marking them. Cassie remembers seeing the same sign in Nick’s yard, so Jane suggests her not to inform the guy about the Circle.

Dawn tells Charles about her meeting with Jane: it’s possible that inside the Blakes’ house there could be a crystal left, and the new bound with Jane born out of trust could be useful for Dawn to find it and so localize the rest of them, needed to reactivate their powers. Charles seems to be lost in thought, and blames it on sleep deprivation; Dawn is aware that his mood is due to Nick’s death.

Once back home, Cassie is assaulted and wounded by a girl who claims her blood, but Jake’s intervention is sufficient to save the young witch. Jake has known for years of his powers, but doesn’t want to be a member of the Circle. The two teenagers suspect Cassie’s aggressor to be responsible for the fires, and they conclude that she could be another witch belonging to a different Circle.

Cassie would like Jake to remain in town to get the Circle stronger, but Adam doesn’t trust him. This attitude is, according to Diana, just a manifestation of jealousy.

Jane gives Cassie her crystal: it’s a powerful instrument that amplifies the powers of its owner, and it will enable Cassie to use her powers even on her own; unfortunately, the crystal is a very desired object, so it’s of utmost importance that no one knows about its existence.

In a motel, Jake faces Simone, the girl who attacked Cassie, and it’s clear that the two guys already knew each other. Jake manages to get back the sample of Cassie’s blood that Simone has stolen during the fight.

Adam comes to blows with Jake and this episode convinces Diana more and more that her boyfriend is jealous of Cassie.

Charles gives Jake his condolences and offers his help if the guy may need it, but he gets confused and he calls him “Nick” by mistake. The man stops and observes Nick’s pictures and then realizes out loud how, after all, everything is out of control and that history keeps on repeating itself.

Ethan recommends Diana to leave Adam alone, because Adam’s destiny is to be with Cassie. Their families’ fate is written in the stars, and frightening things will happen if they deviate from it.

Simone has an argument with Jake: she believes the guy to be too involved with Cassie for completing their mission, so she attacks him with a dagger. Jake manages to gain the upper hand and kills Simone with the help of Cassie who, unseen, uses the crystal. Jake maintains that Simone were a scavenger: a witch in search of power after the death of one of the elects in the Circle. Cassie is able to make Jake stay in ChanceHarbor for a while, in order not to weaken the Circle.

Diana decides to break up with Adam, then confronts Cassie: she’s lost not only her boyfriend, but her best friend too, so she needs someone else to vent.

Jake catches up with a bunch of men and his mission is revealed: its return to ChanceHarbor has been settled to avenge the death of all the people in his family and to free the town from the witches’ presence. The guy has been forced to kill Simone, one of his mates, for saving the whole operation, since the girl has exposed herself too much.
